We will teach you everything you need to know about starting to roast coffee at home. The two-hour workshop (hosted by Anthony Coppa) will consist of a lecture, hands-on roasting demonstration, and a Q&A with Anthony. This event is sponsored by Sweet Maria's who is providing all of our green beans.
We are hosting our first LORE AeroPress Demo with coffee legend Chuck Herrera. Chuck has been involved in coffee shop start ups, small batch roasting, coffee directing, cafe management and consulting. He runs a coffee podcast, was a speaker at Coffee Con Los Angeles, and ran the education program at Bar 9.
This informal talk will address the rise of specialty coffee production and culture in Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Philippines, and Myanmar. Although this region has received increasing media attention from coffee trade magazines, blogs, and social media spaces there is still a general lack of knowledge about these origins in the specialty coffee community. By discussing the complex coffee histories of these places, the tension between commodity coffee and specialty coffee, and emerging local coffee practices that draw on U.S., European, and East Asian specialty coffee culture, this talk will hopefully create dialogue about these underrepresented origins and why they matter for producers and consumers alike.
Do you wish you could brew better coffee at home? This is an introductory class focused on teaching the importance of water filtration, grinders, scales, extraction, & brew ratio.
Espresso and steamed milk, It’s the most unique element of cafes but what do we really know about it? The process is quite intensive requiring an espresso machine, a high-quality Grinder, and a great deal of preparation. In this workshop, we are going to walk you through the process on a classic Spring lever espresso machine. When you are finished with the workshop you will be able to talk shop with your favorite barista and know how much really goes into your favorite latte.
-Introduction to Espresso; the taste, the qualities, and challenges.
-Demonstration on the spring lever machine and explanation of how it works.
-Hands on experience making your own Gibraltar.

We have the privilege of hosting Marco Rocchio a local roaster out of Manhattan Beach, Ca. He will share with the Long Beach Coffee Club his knowledge, adventures and a rare coffee discovery from Northern Guatemala. We will be tasting his personally sourced rare Chicoj coffee at this event!

The indigenous Mayans of the Guatemalan Rain Forest have been cultivating coffee since the late 1800's. But a bloody 35 year long civil war has made their efforts to produce a quality coffee nearly impossible. Rocchio Family Coffee Master Roaster Marco Rocchio has just returned from his third expedition to the region this year.
